France sez: @eBay $61 Million plz

1 07 2008

French fashion company, LVMH [home of Kanye's Louis Vuitton] is sued our favorite marketplace, eBay, for $61 Million for the selling of fake merchandise. Of course, eBay ended up having to pay. eBay countered that “LVMH is trying to crack down on Internet auctions merely because it is uncomfortable with the business model, which tends to cut out the middleman.”

Despite eBay’s wanting to continue with the path it’s started, they’re going to instate measures to weed out counterfeit goods being sold.
Although this is probably a good thing, it’s going to be a pain in the neck for the sellers. eBay can’t be everywhere in the world at once, so really them trying to get rid of fraudulent will be a very difficult thing to achieve.
Possibly what eBay could do is allow buyers who suspect the product they bought fake items to report the seller. Then eBay would review what the buyer is selling, maybe contact them even.
We’ll see what eBay does.

AT&T to Release the iPhone at 8am

1 07 2008

AT&T has released, among other information, that the iPhone 3G will be released at 8 AM July 11th.

AT&T also said that they will have a “no-commit” option for the iPhone 3G. In other words, pay full price.
Also, kind of an obvious one, if you don’t qualify for upgrade pricing, you must pay full price, as well as sign a new contract.
Plans start at $69.99 for 450 anytime minutes, 5000 night and weekend, unlimited mobile-to-mobile and iPhone 3G data. AT&T’s unlimited voice plan including iPhone 3G service is $129.99. SMS text message bundles are available for $5 (for 200 messages a month), $15 (for 1500 messages a month) and $20 (for unlimited text messages) a month, or $0.20 per message.
My advice? Call up AT&T and find out if you qualify for the cheaper price for the iPhone 3G. If they say that they can’t release that kind of information, then just ask if you can get the subsidized price for some other “smart” phone, it would basically be the same. If you’re not eligible for the upgrade pricing, find out how much it would cost to cancel your account (as in early termination fees). Chances are the ETF would cost less than buying a whole new iPhone, unsubsidized ($600-ish area). Everyone else, just get really antsy, cause there’s 9 days left!

iPhone 3G Flickr Group

1 07 2008

It’s officially 10 days until the projected iPhone 3G launch[the widget]. Chances are if you’ve read more than one post from me you’re excited about the release, too. So, with my excitement, I’ve created a Flickr group specifically for pictures from the launch/camping/whatnot.

So yeah, become part of the pre-celebration! Join the group, bad-mouth some Windows Mobile phones if you want. Essentially, have fun.

Since this is a tech/apple/megoingcrazy blog, I thought I should include this delectable bit of information. First off, the title was to throw people off. HA! Second, the picture was made to confuse you due to the title…HAHA! Now, to the nitty gritty…

The cookies pictured are quarter-pound chocolate chunk cookies. Yes, one fourth of a pound, measuring five inches in diameter. They come in 5 different varieties: Chocolate chip, Chocolate Chunk, Rasin Oatmeal, White Chunk Macadamia, and Snickerdoodle.
The site says nothing about pricing, but I located another site that seemed to be selling them for $19.99, but I don’t trust them. I think my best bet is to call or e-mail them and have them ship me some.
…I wonder what the Tera Bite would look like.
